The congregation at Trehill in the Vale of Glamorgan was founded at the personal invitation of Howell Harris, the charismatic leader of the 18th century Welsh Methodist Revival and a key figure in the founding of the Presbyterian Church of Wales.

The present church building was erected in 1873 but the cause began in 1740 when Howell Harris of Trefeca established a ‘society’ in a nearby house. The present minister in charge is Reverend Professor John Heywood Thomas.
