Re-building

On Thursday 22nd July representatives from a number of our denominational departments, were invited to a Consultation Day in Trefeca (or on Zoom), We were asked to share ideas and wisdom about how Trefeca can continue to best serve our churches and communities to the future. The Rev Trefor Lewis, Chair of the Trefeca Department opened with these words from Isaiah chapter 43 v 18 – 19.

“Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing, now it springs forth do you not perceive it?

We have a great heritage in Trefeca, which still needs to be shared, but Isaiah’s words remind us too that we must not miss the “new thing” that God is calling us to do today. It requires the work, vision and prayers of the whole church to do that. One of the ‘must see’ sites in Barcelona is Sagrada Familia, the impressive church building, designed by Antoni Gauy but still unfinished, with it’s exterior adorned with carvings depicting the life of Christ. Antoni Gaudi, the architect, engaged all local craftsmen, stone masons, carpenters etc. Just like Nehemiah re-building of Jerusalem, depended on different “families” of God’s people, taking responsibility for different parts of the wall.

So in our prayers for Trefeca today we ask God to show us, what part he wants us to take, as individuals, or churches, or as members of denominational committees.

Prayer.

God, you are the same today, yesterday and tomorrow. We give you thanks for the past in Trefeca, we praise your name for what is happening there today. We turn to you seeking your guidance as we build for the future. Forgive us for leaving you out of our plans, and for asking you to bless the work when all planning has finished. You call us to follow your roadmap – give us the willingness to do so. Open our eyes, ears and minds to see, hear and understand what you have planned for Trefeca so that your name will be uplifted. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ the master builder. Amen.
