What we do
The Women’s Sub-Committee decides on an annual theme for their work. The theme helps us focus on our work and we will use resources during the Women’s events. This year we have produced an attractive booklet full of ideas on our Theme as well as news of our projects home and overseas.
Encouraging faith
The Dorcas Co-ordinators, Carys Davies and Sarah Morris seek to offer encouragement to groups and individuals by running Bible studies on Zoom, preparing an annual book of Resources and visiting women’s groups.
Visiting groups
Stuck for ideas for your women’s meeting? Fancy a change? Like a Bible study? Keen to hold an outreach event? Carys and Sarah are waiting to come along to your group. Here are some sessions they’ve helped churches to arrange:
Christmas Outreach.
The session included singing carols, making a Christmas table decoration, mince pies and a brief message on the meaning of Christmas.
Bible study on the Theme verse followed by lunch.
A Session for the Presbytery ladies in a church with a café next door. After a Bible study on the Theme verse and a simple craft to make bags to hold Bible verses a lovely lunch was provided by the café.
Craft night.
Attractive invitations to a Wreath making evening were made and given out to friends and neighbours. All materials were provided (a small charge was made to cover the costs) as were refreshments, and an invitation to the Christmas Carol service in the church was given out.
Sewing for Dress a Girl Around the World Charity.
Ladies from a pastorate got together with their sewing machines, material and patterns and spent the evening sewing and chatting. They invited some of the teenagers to join them (daughters and grand-daughters) and they made several dresses to send to the charity.
Mission evening.
A Power point presentation introducing the Mission Projects that the Women’s Committee supports. The gentlemen were also invited. Many said that they were glad to hear how the mission collection is helping Christians in other countries to make a difference in their communities.
Zoom Bible Studies
These are held fortnightly on Monday evening between 7 and 8.15pm. Most of the time is spent looking at a Bible passage and there is also time for discussion in small groups. The Studies have proved to be a lovely time of fellowship, as we share our experiences and learn from God’s Word together. Recent series include Prayers of the Bible, the Book of Proverbs, Women who met Jesus.

Theme book of Resources
Each year a Bible verse is chosen to be the Theme for that year. Our hope is to create unity across our churches as women from all over Wales study the same verse together and that the chosen verse will give our work a special focus. The Theme Resource book contains a wide range of articles and can be used by groups and individuals. There is a full Service and series of Bible Studies that help us to explore the Theme verse as well as testimonies from our members and workers relating to the verse. We include updates from our international Mission Projects and news about mission work in Wales. We know that our women are greatly encouraged through the Theme Resource book and that copies are also given to friends and neighbours.

Dementia Resources
A series of resources are available for churches and individuals to raise awareness and provide spiritual support. Sadly, the number of people who are affected by dementia is increasing, including many of our members. We believe that the church can offer invaluable support for those living with dementia and their Carers. The Churches Handbook provides information about dementia, guidelines for churches who desire to minister appropriately and many practical ideas. Also available is Treasured Prayers, a book of Bible verses, hymns and pictures from around Wales and the Wonderful Words of Life Cd which contains Sunday school hymns, Bible readings and prayers.

Dorcas Programme
The Women’s work is supported by the Dorcas Programme, which was set up following the desire of the Presbyterian Church of Wales’s Women Department to assist the women of our churches to share their faith in the Lord Jesus.
The Programme prepares purposeful resources for the Women, such as Bible Studies and ideas for events to reach out to women in the community.
We have two co-ordinators- Carys Davies in the North and Sarah Morris in the South. The two are available to visit in order to provide support or address the groups. You can contact them by e-mail or by phone.
The Mission Bulletin.
Regular news is provided by Eirian Roberts, the Women’s work co-ordinator, through the Mission Bulletin. The Bulletin is produced twice a year and includes updates from the Mission projects, news of mission work in Wales and information about the Mission Rallies and Retreats.
